Homiletics
One of my major fields of study. Here are some links that are related
to my field. I have a page devoted to homiletics links here.
Ethics & Society
My other major field of study.
Children, Education, and Society
Yet another research interest. This is a high-profile public discussion
of late, but it generally lacks the kind of reflection and reasoned
debate that might lead to eventual reform. The links below are not
ones I necessarily endorse as having any "answers," but
they take different approaches to the the same set of concerns.
Sexuality and Education
One of my research interests. God created human beings as sexual animals.
It's probably one of the more interesting and redeeming aspects of
our species. Here are a few links that I think are pretty good.
Linguistics and Language Theory
Another of my research interests. Some of these links may deal with
broader issues or particular intellectuals, since communication theory
quickly leads to cultural critique.
Organizations
Some of the organizations to which I belong.
Comix
One of my academic crusades. Comix are long overdue for scholarly
study. Here are some good places to start.
- Scott McCloud's
Site - McCloud is that author of Understanding Comics.
Check out his links
as well.
- Carol Lay -
Lay's "Story Minute" at Salon.com is probably my favorite
comic strip. Each one is a parable or fable in the classic sense:
they have some kind of ironic twist. Updated weekly on Tuesdays.
- The
Boondocks is another great daily by Aaron McGruder. You can
see the strips here.
It's not often you get to see Cornell West referred to in a comic
strip.
- Art
Spiegelman research page. Spiegelman was perhaps the first comix
artist to get noticed by academe. More stuff on him here
and here.
- Will Eisner
- Eisner created what many consider the first graphic novel, A
Contract with God. Lots of grist for the theological mill in
his stuff.
