  • Candler School of Theology at Emory University - Fall 1994 to Spring 1997. Master of Divinity. Graduated Cum Laude with Honors for "Someone else's mail: A pilot study using a literary strategy for teaching epistolary scripture."
  • Oglethorpe University - Fall 1991 to Spring 1994. Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in English. Graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Psychology for "Happiness: An operational definition based on Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics."

Teaching Experience

  • Instructor, Vanderbilt - Fall 2001. Developed and led the class Bonhoeffer: Preaching and the Church. Created syllabus, lectured and led discussion, and graded assignments.
  • Master Teaching Fellow, Vanderbilt - Fall 2000 - Spring 2001. Led the Seminar on the Teaching of Religion. Also trained and consulted with teaching assistants from multiple disciplines on classroom effectiveness, teaching strategies, and pedagogical issues. Developed and led workshops for GradSTEP (graduate student conference) and Teaching Assistant Orientation with the Center for Teaching.
  • Teaching Assistant, Vanderbilt - Fall 1998 - Spring 2001. Lectured, led discussion and sermon critiques, and assisted grading for Susan Bond in Introduction to Homiletics for three semesters and for David Buttrick in Preaching the Parables.

Ministry Experience

  • Ordained Elder, North Alabama Conferece - June 2005.
  • Pastor, Fairview United Methodist Church - June 2002-present. Developed innovative ministries to revive a small church in rural Alabama. Created and mentored worship teams, began The Story, an alternative worship service.
  • Preaching Consultant, Trinity United Methodist Church - September 2001 - February 2002. Designed and led the preaching study group "Preach so That Hearers Will Remember" as part of Trinity's Wild Olive Shoot teaching church ministry. Facilitated peer preaching training with a group of North Alabama pastors.
  • Youth Ministries, Belle Meade United Methodist Church - Fall 1997 to Spring 1999 and
  • Youth Ministries, Mount Zion United Methodist Church - Fall 1994 to Summer 1996. Organized small groups, taught leadership skills, preached sermons, and participated in church staff team leading. Responsibilities also included weekly programs, mission experiences, fund raisers, retreats, and special events. Developed relationships with youth and their parents, consulted with parents on parenting skills, and trained volunteers for youth counseling and mentoring.
